How I Read a Natal Chart: Looking for Patterns, Not Predictions
Every astrologer has a different way of reading charts. Here's why I focus on patterns, not isolated placements—and why I believe astrology is a tool for clarity, not certainty.
One of the questions I get asked most often is, "How do you actually read a birth chart?"
Every astrologer and intuitive practitioner has their own style. People are often surprised when I tell them that I don't start by interpreting individual placements.
I don't begin with, "Your Moon means this," or "Your Saturn means that." Instead, I start by looking for patterns—the placements calling out for attention, the ones repeating the same message over and over again.
A natal chart is like a conversation. Every planet, sign, and house has something to say, but the real meaning comes from how they interact with one another. A single placement can be interesting. A pattern tells a story.
Every astrologer develops their own philosophy over time. My approach has also been shaped by my broader beliefs about grounded spirituality, which I explore further in The Missing Depth in Modern Spiritual Spaces.
I Read the Chart as a Whole
Traditional astrology teaches us to consider the entire chart before drawing conclusions. That philosophy has shaped my practice from the beginning.
When I first open a chart, I'm not looking only at someone's "big three" or trying to fit them into a personality type. Instead, I'm asking questions like:
Which planets are carrying the most responsibility?
What themes repeat themselves?
Which houses keep coming into focus?
Where is there support? Where is there tension?
What strengths have been quietly showing up throughout their life?
If I see the same message appearing three or four different ways, I pay attention.
To me, repetition is rarely an accident.
I'm Less Interested in Labels and More Interested in Energy
Astrology has an incredible vocabulary, but sometimes that vocabulary can become overwhelming.
You can spend an hour talking about houses, aspects, dignities, sect, profections, or planetary rulers. Those techniques are valuable—I use many of them—but my clients don't need to become astrologers to benefit from a reading.
Instead, I translate those technical observations into practical patterns and everyday language. My aim is to help clients understand and connect with the energies of their chart.
Rather than saying, "You have an exalted Venus in Pisces," I might say:
"Your chart repeatedly points toward leading through compassion, creativity, and emotional intelligence. You aren't meant to force opportunities. Instead, you tend to attract them by becoming deeply skilled at what you naturally do well."
The astrology is still there.
I'm simply speaking the language of everyday life.
I'm Always Asking: "How Do We Work With This?"
One thing I've noticed is that many chart readings stop after describing someone's personality. I want to go one step further because, to truly benefit from an astrology reading, you need to apply what you've learned. There is tremendous value in knowing yourself, and understanding your chart can be an important step in that journey.
If your chart shows a recurring challenge, how do you work with it?
If it reveals a gift, how do you develop it?
If life is asking you to lean into a particular season, what does that actually look like in practice?
My goal isn't simply to describe who you are. I trust that most people already have a general sense of who they are. What they may be looking for is permission to embody the version of themselves they've kept hidden behind a protective façade.
My goal is to validate your sense of self and help you recognize how to move in alignment with the energy of your chart.
I Don't Believe the Chart Is a Sentence
One of my core beliefs is that astrology is a tool for reflection—not a substitute for your own judgment.
A birth chart can reveal patterns, highlight strengths, and point toward recurring themes. It doesn't remove your agency.
The same placement can express itself in countless different ways depending on your choices, your environment, your experiences, and the work you've already done.
That's why I think astrology is most powerful when it creates awareness rather than certainty. That awareness may open the door to alternative timelines—perhaps the road less traveled. The road paved for, and ultimately by, you.
This philosophy is one of the reasons I believe astrology should be used as a tool for reflection rather than certainty. My Background Shapes How I Read Charts
Before studying astrology, I spent nearly two decades working in legal research, knowledge management, and legal technology.
My career taught me how to organize complex information, recognize patterns across large data sets, and separate signal from noise. That professional background naturally colors the way I read charts. The difference is that I'm now working with a different kind of source material.
A birth chart contains an incredible amount of information, but I'm rarely looking for the loudest placement. I'm looking for the underlying architecture—the thread connecting everything together.
More Than Anything, I Want You to Feel Seen
Don't get me wrong—people sometimes come to a reading because they're searching for answers. But what I've discovered is that many already know the answer. They simply haven't had someone reflect back the patterns they've been quietly living.
That's what I hope to offer.
Not certainty.
Not necessarily predictions, because I believe the future is mutable.
What I hope to offer is clarity.
Because when someone recognizes themselves in their own chart—not just their strengths, but their longings, their gifts, and the themes that have followed them throughout life—something shifts.
They stop asking, "Who should I become?"
And they begin asking, "How can I become more fully myself?"
For me, that's where astrology is at its most meaningful.
If This Approach Resonates with You
Every chart tells a story, and no two stories are the same.
Whether you're completely new to astrology or you've been studying your chart for years, my hope is to offer a reading that helps you see yourself more clearly—not by handing you all the answers, but by reflecting back the patterns, strengths, and possibilities that may already be quietly unfolding in your life.
If this approach to astrology resonates with you, I'd be honored to read your chart.
Each reading is thoughtful, personalized, and grounded in traditional astrology, with plenty of space for conversation, questions, and practical reflection. My goal is that you leave not only with a deeper understanding of your chart, but with a greater sense of confidence in your own path.
If it feels aligned, I'd love to work with you.
